After graduation from Humboldt State University, I served two years in the US Peace Corps, 1964-66 in an applied forestry research program in the Hindu Kush Mountains of West Pakistan. US Army 1967-69, While in the US Army I lived in the Black Forest of Germany at a radio relay station.
I worked for the US Forest Service for 35 years on five national forests in California including the Stanislaus NF in Silviculture, Timber Sale Administration, and as Timber Sale Contracting Officer. When I retired in 2002, I was in charge of the Timber Sale Administration program in California training new contract administrators, and dealing with contract claims.
I am currently a member of the California Professional Forester’s Examination Committee under the Board of Forestry that is responsible for licensing Registered Professional Foresters in California. I do occasional consulting work in the forestry field; I taught classes in timber sale administration for a contractor, providing training to Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management Personnel. I have worked and visited forests all over the world, and now live in one of the best forests here in Tuolumne County.
I have been an AFRC consultant since 2010, with responsibility for the Southern Sierra Nevada Forests (and occasionally southern California)
